Flood risk in Austria: 840,000 people in risk!

In Austria, alarming 840,000 people live in flood risk areas, as shown new data from the Ministry of Agriculture. This means that more than half a million citizens statistically have to expect a "flood of the century" at least once in their lives. This risk is particularly high in alpine regions and along the Danube. According to the evaluations, 550,936 people (6.0 percent of the population) are affected by a 100-year risk of flood. In this category of extreme floods, 99,758 people (1.1 percent) must also count on 30 years of flood, while 838,362 inhabitants (9.1 percent) have to be traded in rare but particularly catastrophic water quantities. However, these figures only refer to main residences-the entire concern could therefore be even higher, since secondary apartments and workplaces are not included, as the swp . For Austria, however, the situation remains a bit more relaxed, despite increasing Corona numbers there is currently no classification as a risk area.
