Change in tourism: Styria records rising arrivals despite economy!
Steiermark, Österreich - Styria is enjoying growing popularity among tourists, as current reports show. From November to the end of January 2025, according to orf.at more arrivals and 134,000 additional overnight stays compared to the previous year. Although the rush is large, the holidaymakers are less generous: in particular the younger generation, especially gen z, shortens her travel budget by 14 percent, while she wants to travel more often at the same time. This development could be partially due to the increasing cost of living and the aftermath of pandemic. According to Gernot Deutsch, the chairman of the Hotelierei Association Styria, many young people have invested in their living conditions during the pandemic, which now leads to cuts in the holiday editions.
But travel tourism is not only in Styria. The ReiserePorter reports that more Germans went on vacation than in the previous year. Around 63 percent of adults in Germany have undertaken at least one trip, with the gene z and millennials often traveling abroad. There was a significant decline in Germans, which made vacations in Germany and abroad, which indicates that many have chosen a travel model: either abroad or within Germany. The Z: 62 percent of young Germans travels abroad in particular for a trip outside of Germany, an increase of 24 percent compared to the previous year.
flexible travel behavior and new trends
The survey also shows that young people are increasingly falling back on digital information and platforms when planning vacation. Online reviews and social media are decisive factors for gen z, while older people attach less importance to it. The price considerations are crucial for all generations, although young travelers are still ready to dig deeper into their pockets for extras and amenities on vacation. Overall, it can be seen that despite inflation and crises, the desire to travel remains unbroken and the anticipation for new experiences and discoveries is strongly pronounced.
