Summer Night concert: Wiener classic with Piotr Beczała in the castle park!
Schlosspark Schönbrunn, 1130 Wien, Österreich - On June 12, 2025, the Schönbrunn Schönpark in Vienna will take place in the Vienna Philharmonic in Vienna. Under the direction of the conductor Tugan Sokhiev, who made his debut at the 22nd edition of the concert, a varied and entertaining program is offered. This year the Viennese singing boys will participate in the concert for the first time.
The concert starts at 8:45 p.m. and the weather forecasts are optimistic: a rainless summer evening is in prospect. Live visitors can get access to the event location from 5 p.m. via the Hietzinger and Meidlinger Tor. For those who prefer to follow the concert from home, TV transmission to ORF 2, delayed from 9:20 p.m.
special program items
The program design for the summer night concert rates a clear focus on well-known opera and operetta melodies that offer a musical journey through various European landscapes and moods. Due to a memory of the victims of a killing spree at a Graz school, the opening piece choice had to be changed without further ado, from "Cancan" (Offenbach) to "Air" (Bach).
A highlight of the evening will be the appearance of the renowned starter Piotr Beczała, who will present three arias: from Georges Bizets "Carmen", from Giacomo Puccini's "Turandot" and from Emmerich Kálmán's operetta "Countess Mariza". As part of the concert, the overture for the opera "The Funny Women of Windsor" by Otto Nicolai is also dedicated to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the House of Music.
The purpose of the concert
The overarching goal of the summer night concert is to make classical music accessible to everyone. The choice of the pieces reflects on this concern and aims to address a wide audience. The musical performance is enriched by the participation of the Viennese singing boys, which are part of the program for the first time this year.
The concert will not only offer musical highlights, but also create a cultural framework that underlines the close partnership between the historical archive of the orchestra and the House of Music. Since the opening of the museum in 2000 in the former house of Otto Nicolai, there has been a significant connection that celebrates the cultural heritage of the Vienna Philharmonic.
The anticipation for the summer night concert of the Vienna Philharmonic is great. The event offers both an exquisite musical performance as well as a space for memory and gathering in a historical ambience.
