Austria's darts president Schuhmann: Courageous plans for the future!
The Austrian Darts Association (ÖDV) is under the direction of President Dietmar Schuhmann, who wants to actively shape the future of darts in Austria with a clear plan. Despite his fulltime job and a family, Schuhmann shows great commitment to the association, whose headquarters are in Vienna. He returned two weeks ago with a 25-member delegation from South Africa, where, in addition to sporting, cultural experiences were gained, including visits to the Apartheid Museum and in the Mandela House. A highlight of the trip was a friendly between Austria and South Africa, which ended with 401: 376 for the hosts.
The ÖDV was founded on September 7, 1990 and has developed strongly since then. He is a member of the World Darts Federation (WDF) and was included in the Austrian Federal Sports Organization Sport Austria in October 2022. The association currently has 160 clubs and has a total of 2114 members, a number that he would like to increase to 10,000 by 2030. Schuhmann has developed a vision 2030 with 40 clear destinations, which prescribes, among other things, the placement of the national teams among the top 5 in the youth field and top 10 in women and men.
new accents in the association
As part of its strategies, the ÖDV has implemented numerous new concepts that concern areas such as sports psychology, anti-doping, sustainability, child protection and the training of trainers: inside. Over 30 trainers: Inside, an integrated sports psychologist is now active in the national team to mentally support athlete. Such a scientifically sound approach is not only innovative, but also underlines the importance of psychological aspects in competitive sports, as also treated in the specialist literature. In the para-Darts area, the association has made great progress by launching ten licensed athletes: inside and his own competitions. This shows the effort of the ÖDV for inclusion and the promotion of darts at all levels, including the youth work. At the current state championships that took place in Klagenfurt, Patrick Tringler and Marie Messner were the men's individual and women's singles.
look into the future
The next steps of the ÖDV are ambitious. Desired events should be designed larger, greener and more international. A separate event GmbH is to be founded, as well as the possibility of streaming the Bundesliga. In addition, the association is planning to organize a WDF World Cup in Austria. Schuhmann has already initiated concrete strategies to achieve these goals.
With the increase in visibility and the professionalization of the competitions, which take place as part of the WDF Austrian Darts Festival and other youth and ranking tournaments, the ÖDV relies on discovering new talents and promoting darts in Austria as a whole. The upcoming tournaments also promise to show exciting encounters and promising athletes: to show inside that could cause a sensation in the next few years.
The progress of the ÖDV is evidence of the dynamic change in the Austrian darts of darts, which is not only national, but also international attention.
