Artificial intelligence brings Gehry's Guggenheim back to life!

Refik Anadol, a highly decorated pioneer of digital art, is causing a stir with two spectacular exhibitions that push the boundaries of art and technology. His latest creation in Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is a digital reinterpretation of Frank Gehry's famous architectural work. Anadol presents a 16-minute audiovisual installation created using a specially developed AI model. Visitors can prepare for an immersive journey through vibrant colors and moving shapes that create the feeling of floating in a gigantic techno lava lamp. This novelty is intended not only to entertain, but also to introduce the audience to the fascination of AI art and at the same time usher in a new era of artistic expression.

Aesthetic finishes and technological mastery

At the same time, Anadol is showing in Kunsthaus Zurich his exhibition “Unsupervised”, which impressively demonstrates the capabilities of AI and machine learning. Here, Anadol transforms data from the house's art collection into fluid, changing visual spectacles. Despite the impressive aesthetic presentation, critics criticize the lack of intellectual depth. The works encourage reflection, but hardly offer any substantive discussions of the ethical and social issues associated with the use of AI.

While Anadol in Bilbao tries to create new dimensions of experience with his art and inspire a young audience, in Zurich there is criticism that his works should offer more than just visual effects. The use of algorithms often remains on the surface and does not provoke deeper reflection on the cultural and social implications of digital art. Anadol celebrates technology, but this uncritical view could be seen as problematic, especially in a world that demands new perspectives and critical insights.
