Auxiliary campaign in Syria: Güssinger Verein experiences the fall of Assads up close!

Rakka, Syrien - Rainer Brim and his team from the Güssinger Association "Karawane of Humanity" made a remarkable trip to Syria about ten days ago. With six tons of relief goods in their luggage, they experienced the fall of the terrorist regime from Bashar al-Assad up close. In the northern Syrian city of Rakka, the former stronghold of IS, they were awakened on Sunday morning by cheering and swiveling Islamist flags. The joy of the fall of the regime was mixed with concern about the aggressive presence of these groups, as Brim explained in an interview with ORF-Burgenland. "We saw that they swung flags from the HTS, flags from the Syrian army - these are largely Islamist groups," said Brim.

The Kurdish population, which lives in the autonomous areas, is skeptical in these turbulent times. The team was able to distribute its relief supplies to refugees around 100 kilometers from Rakka, but the uncertain future is very concerned about the Kurds. "Above all, the Kurdish population is very skeptical about what comes now," says Brim. The joy of the fall of Assad is there, but the question remains what will happen next.

interdisciplinary approaches in queer research

This combination of practical humanitarian aid in Syria and the academic innovation through the book "Imagining Queer Methods" illustrates that changes and developments are continuously taking place in both social and cultural areas. While Brim is experiencing the overwhelming realities on site, new scientific approaches provide valuable impulses for a progressive and diverse consideration of society and identity as they are in the work of Ghaziani and Brim.
