The Donauwalzer takes off: Vienna sends Waltz to space!
Wien, Österreich - in 2025 Vienna celebrates the 200th birthday of his most famous composer, Johann Strauss son, with an extraordinary initiative: the "Waltz Into Space" mission. In collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), Wient Tourism and Viennese symphonists send the legendary Danube Walzer directly into space. This will be done on May 31, 2025 as part of an interlocking concert in the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK), in which the orchestra under the direction of Petr Popelka is sent the waltz on the journey. The Danube Walzer, which is often referred to as an anthem of space, is sent to the ESA Deep Space Antenna 2 in Cebreros, Spain in real time and from there transferred as an electromagnetic wave to the speed of light to reach the NASA space probe 1, which has been on the road since 1977. The Press executed.
In addition to the transfer to space, interested part of the mission can be by combining one of the 13,743 grades of the Danube Waltz and thus becoming virtual ambassadors: inside of the intergalactic premiere. All participants receive a certificate of their note patronage and the possibility to look at the event from the MAK in a live streaming of the concert. This will not only impress a new chapter in space history, but also impressively demonstrate the connection between music and science.
