Crisis in the classroom: Vienna's schools in an urgent emergency!
In Vienna, an alarming educational crisis is emerging. Education City Councilor Christoph Return, who is responsible for the serious problems at schools, now changes as Minister of Education to a higher level, which only increases the tension. On March 5, the politician will be adopted by the Greens at a press conference "Subsidiary for Education City Councilor Return", where the deficits of the education system are to be discussed. Around 50% of the first graders in elementary schools cannot speak sufficiently German, and many classrooms are without teaching staff, the Greens claim in retrospect for the term of office, such as OTS reported.
The challenges that the Viennese schools are facing is enormous. Urgent shortage of teachers, inadequate German funding and the debate about family reunions further tighten the situation. Felix Stadler, education spokesman for the Greens, warns: "If educational city councilor is not acting now, we will soon have more children to whom we install the future." The Greens present a comprehensive educational package that consists of six points to tackle school problems. This includes a better mix of the students to avoid segregation, as well as measures to combat the lack of teachers, including higher salaries in schools with major challenges, such as six key measures for reform
The central points of the educational package also includes the demand for improved language support in kindergartens. Around a third of all first graders in Vienna suffers from a lack of language skills and cannot follow the regular lessons. The Greens demand that every kindergarten should get the right to a language promotion. In addition to these measures, the need to hire school social workers and to name leaderships who are brave enough to tackle the current challenges. With these reform proposals, the Greens hope to revolutionize the precarious educational situation in Vienna and to create better conditions for all children.
