Flash vs. Lavrov: The struggle for the future of Ukraine broke out!
Ta’Qali, Malta - A heated exchange of blows between Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Antony Flasche has shaked the annual security conference of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Malta. Lavrov accused the West of tightening the tensions in the Ukraine conflict and conjuring up a new era of the Cold War. "After the shame in Afghanistan, a new joint enemy was needed," said Lavrov and emphasized that US politics conjured up the risk of a hot conflict with Russia.
While Lavrov performed his aggressive rhetoric, he abruptly left the room before flashing and other speakers could answer. Flashing countered sharply and blamed Russia for the escalation in the region. "Let us talk about escalation," said blinking, referring to the military activities of Russia, including the use of ballistic rockets against Ukraine and the threat of nuclear weapons. He emphasized the sovereign right of Ukraine to make its own decisions without influence from Moscow.
Ukraine calls for measures
The 57 member states of the OSCE have been largely incapable of acting since Russia has been invaded to Ukraine, since Russia blocks important decisions. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who took part in the conference, said that Russia's membership is a threat to European cooperation. "Ukraine continues to fight for its right to exist. The Russian war criminal at the table must know: Ukraine will win and justice will win," called Sybiha.
In the middle of these tensions, there were also diplomatic complications: the Maltese government had the visa of Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, canceled, which is due to resistance from three OSCE member states. While Lavrov is under EU sanctions, he remains unaffected by a travel ban and was therefore able to participate in the conference.
