ÖBB: Over 30,000 lost treasures - what travelers left behind!
ÖBB: Over 30,000 lost treasures - what travelers left behind!
Kärnten, Österreich - The ÖBB again took an impressive balance in its Lost & Found area in 2024: a total of 30,700 lost items were collected-this corresponds to around 84 pieces a day. Sugs, backpacks and bags that are at the top with 11,300 units were particularly frequently handed over, followed by electronic devices such as cell phones and cameras (approx. 5,600) as well as wallets and securities (3,600). The return rate of the objects to the owners has increased by three percent, so that 38 percent of the lost things could be returned. This reports Klick-kaernten.at.
But the lost property offices not only record everyday objects. There are also some curiosities in these respect: in addition to everyday objects, 5 wheelchairs, 38 walking aids and 13 hearing aids were given. The 17 strollers, 134 scooters and even two drones that were forgotten on the trains are also particularly remarkable. And what would a trip without music? The ÖBB recorded 103 musical instruments found, with guitars with 52 making the largest group. This supports the impression that the lanes are often used by artists.
nostalgic objects from the 80s
But not only the finds at the ÖBB are interesting: A review of the 1980s shows that many things from the past now arouse nostalgic memories. The classic walkman, who allowed people to enjoy music on the way, is missing today. In addition, there are the video cassettes and recorder that once provided cinematic evenings. Many young people today would no longer know how to pick up music from the radio or what is "band salad"-another relic from the time that could be quickly remedied with a little skill, as Wisst-ihr-noch.de reports.
A lot has changed with the development of technology: where telephones used to be on the table, the cell phone has revolutionized communication. The times of television breaks and cassettes are also over. The memory of these earlier everyday objects shows us how quickly the world around us has changed, while at the same time we should never lose sight of the importance of honest submission to the Lost & Found offices.
