Federal government is fighting Lakurawa: New threat to Nigeria!
Nigeria - alarm level red in Nigeria! The Federal Government has initiated measures through the national security advisor's office to combat the threat from the Lakurawa Group. This extremist group only moved into the spotlight a week ago when the military announced its existence. However, the group has been active in the country since 2018 and is a serious danger to national security.
The Nigerian armed forces face a new challenge! Coordinated soil and air strikes have forced the members of the Lakurawa Group to flee to the northwestern states and even migrate to the northern central regions. This militant group was originally founded in Niger in 1997 to protect the Fulani communities. But since 2012 it has radicalized and has become a significant threat after being connected to a faction that occurs for a Sharia state in the Azawad region of Mali.
The roots of the threat
The Lakurawa Group has its roots in an original protection concept for the Fulani communities, but their evolution in a militant organization shows how quickly threats can develop. The military actions that are now taken are a direct reaction to the increasing radicalization and the associated violence that destabilizes the region. The Situation remains tense while the government is trying to regain control and ensure the security of the citizens.
