Verstappen dominates first training in Canada-grip problems everywhere!

In the first free training for the Grand Prix of Canada, world champion Max Verstappen has once again demonstrated his class. He drove the fastest round of the day with an impressive best time of 1: 13.193. Despite the difficulties that many drivers had due to a lack of grips, Verstappen dominated the training. However, his teammates and the competition did not follow far behind.

Places two and three took the two Williams pilots Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz, who finished 0.039 and 0.082 seconds behind Verstappen. Lando Norris from McLaren also reported grip problems and ended the session in seventh place with a distance of 0.458 seconds. Oscar Piatri, who is currently leading the World Cup, landed in 14th place after he was traveling with a new front wing and had a gap of 1,005 seconds.

accident by Leclerc

Special attention caught Charles Leclerc's accident. The Ferrari pilot braks in curve four and had to give up early after only 20 minutes of training. His failure was not only a setback for him, but also an indication of the demanding conditions on the route. George Russell also lined up in the top six of the training, while Lewis Hamilton and Isack Hadjar also achieved good placements.

The second free training continues today at 11 p.m. CET. The teams are dependent on getting the problems with the tire handles under control in order to optimally prepare for qualifying and racing.

A look at the current challenges

The grip -poor conditions are not new in Formula 1 and also played a role in other big prices. In the recent second free training for the Singapore Grand Prix, it was Lando Norris who registered the fastest time. Verstappen, on the other hand, had to deal with grip problems again and landed in the 15th place with 1,294 seconds behind. Team colleague Sergio Perez also expressed concerns about performance and took eighth place.

Such a pressure to perform is nothing unusual for the drivers in the current season. Verstappen drew attention to himself with statistical records in 2023, including most victories in a row and the largest difference between a world champion. His dominant driving behavior made him a model in Formula 1, but the competition is becoming increasingly intense, especially in the exciting atmosphere of the last races.

With the second free training for the Grand Prix of Canada at the door, expectations are high. Teams and drivers have to adapt quickly to be successful in this highly competitive season. The data and results show a clear picture: In Formula 1, no detail remains unimportant, and every round counts.
