Electricity prices 2025: Where Schleswig-Holsteiner can save!

From 2025, consumers in Schleswig-Holstein are facing significant changes on the electricity market, which could lead to higher savings. As the NDR reported, a nationwide levy is introduced by new regulations that relieve affected regions. In particular, rural areas benefit where consumers in the so-called SH network area can expect savings of around 150 euros. The network charges drop considerably and are now adjusted to more comparable levels. Nevertheless, the price of many providers, especially those with price guarantees, remains unchanged, which reduces the savings.

dynamic tariffs and smart meters

A decisive factor for structural changes is the introduction of dynamic tariffs. These tariffs require an intelligent electricity meter, also called smart meter, which documents the consumption accurately. From April 1, 2025, all electricity providers must offer such tariffs that vary the price depending on the supply and demand. According to information from 1komma5.de, this enables savings of up to 500 euros annually for households that are willing to adapt their consumption to current electricity prices. However, only about 1 percent of households in Germany are currently equipped with smart meters, compared to almost 100 percent in Scandinavian countries.

While the new regulations offer different savings options, it should also be pointed out that customers do not always receive the full reduction in network charges in the form of price reductions from the providers. Consumers are therefore encouraged to compare the offers and, if necessary, inform themselves sufficiently before switching to a new tariff in order not to suffer any financial disadvantages.
