Last chance for Sonny Boys: Comedy says goodbye with swing!

The success production "Sonny Boys" by Neil Simon celebrates its last performance on Friday, January 10, 2025, in the large house of the Mecklenburg State Theater. The performance begins at 7.30 p.m. and as part of the monthly theater day, the tickets for all places cost 15 euros.

"Sonny Boys" has been part of the theater schedule since 2023 and was created under the direction of Martin Nimz. The comedy gives insights behind the scenes of the show business and offers a mixture of humorous and melancholic scenes. The focus of the play is on the former Vaudeville comedians Willie Clark and Al Lewis, who are disputed after decades of collaboration. A planned television show now brings them together for a joint appearance after years of separation.

A look at the plot

The tabloid comedy shows the challenges with which the two main characters are faced with, and addresses aging in the show business as well as dealing with old conflicts and the common past. Willie Clark lives withdrawn with his daughter, while Al Lewis lives in a rocked hotel room and complains about lack of offers. The rehearsals for the show bring both the comedians and their surroundings to their limits, whereby situation comedy and pointed dialogues shape the piece.

The piece is based on a Broadway production and became known by filming with Walter Matthau and Gabriel Burns, which contributed to the popularity of the work.
