prices and awards
An important highlight of the Leipzig Book Fair is the awarding of the Leipzig Book Prize for European understanding. This year the price, which is endowed with 20,000 euros, is awarded to Alherd Bacharewitsch for his novel "Europe's dogs". This work is described as a mixture of polittriller, epic, adventure history, satire and fairy tales. Austria's presence and events
Austria will be represented at the book fair with a gratifying number of 138 exhibitors, including 98 publishers. Around 50 Austrian publishers have their own stands, while 24 publishers will issue the HVB community stand. The IG authors presenting around 60 editions with almost 680 new releases on 50 square meters. In addition, over 2,000 events are planned as part of the “Leipzig Liest” reading festival, where, among other things, Nobel Prize winners such as Swetlana Alexijewitsch and Olga Tokarczuk are expected.
Particularly interested is also likely to arouse the newly set up "AudioTelt" of the book fair, which presents audiovisual content. At the same time, the Manga-Comic-Con, which is closely connected to the book fair, will offer a diverse program with workshops and signing hours.
The opening of the host country stand by Crown Princess Mette-Marit was canceled for health reasons because it suffers from lung fibrosis. Mette-Marit has been actively committed to promoting Norwegian literature since 2017.
