On Sunday, the police announced that the corpses of five skiers were discovered on a glacier near the Swiss mountain Rimpfischhorn. The discovery took place after two other skiers had raised the alarm because they had seen skis at the foot of the summit, but did not come across the owners.

A rescue helicopter that was occupied by medical staff flew across the area immediately, and the five corpses were "quickly discovered", as the police position further explained. According to the Swiss Radio Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS), three of the corpses were found about 500 meters from the site of the skis. The other two corpses were almost 200 meters higher, on a small, snow -covered area.

Investigations and identification of victims

The formal identification of the victims is currently underway. The public prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident, the police said.
