Drama on the mountain: 68-year-old crashes on ski tour in Obergurgl!

In a tragic incident in the five times visited Tyrolean municipality of Obergurgl, there was a fatal mountain accident, in which a 68-year-old man from Austria lost his life. The experienced ski tourer had walked alone on Wednesday after he deposited his touring ski and backpack at around 3,200 meters. According to the police, he then continued his tour with crampons to reach the summit. On the way back over the less committed northwest ridge, however, the man lost the hold and crashed about 100 meters of altitude over rocky terrain, which led to his deadly injuries, as the reported.

After the man was reported missing on Friday, the police initiated comprehensive search measures. A police helicopter was used to look for him. Tragically, his body was finally discovered at the foot of a rock passage below the northwest ridge of the Lieben tip, as was the Krone . Despite the alarming use of the rescue workers, the 68-year-old could only be recovered dead, which puts the dramatic and dangerous conditions in the Alps again.
