Bloody dispute in Villach: 14.5 years in prison after a knife attack!
A serious incident shaked Villach in the summer of 2024: A 40-year-old Turkish citizen was convicted of attempted murder after having put several knife stings on an open street. On July 8, 2024, the defendant initially looked for an examination of a friend of a woman who had accused him of rape. The man reacted to the confrontation with fatal violence and added life -threatening injuries to his victim, as reported by reports by krone.at and kurier.at.
court judgment and suspicions
The process that took place at the Carinthian Regional Court ended with a prison sentence of 14 years and six months. The defendant had always said during the procedure that he had only defended himself and that the knife with which he committed the deeds suddenly was on the street. However, this was refuted by the public prosecutor's argument, which described that the victim's injuries were created by "targeted active movements" and not by a mere attempt at defense. Several profound cuts, including on the upper abdomen, led to severe blood loss and acute life for the 38-year-old victim, which could only be saved by emergency operation.
After the incident, the accused fled, buried the murder weapon and only stood by the police the following day. In his process, he was inconsistent in his statements, which finally made the judges noticed that there was no confession. However, the verdict is not yet final because the defense has lodged nullity complaint and appeal, as Kurier.at reports.
