young people bring in fresh perspectives

As early as December 2015, a creative round of ideas with young people took place as part of the future workshop - Youth 2020, focuses on the topic "My future in Sankt Pölten". Participants reported that the city is perceived as a “city village” and combines the village advantages with urban offers. Desired changes include a better bus network, more leisure activities and a stronger revitalization of the city center after 6 p.m. and on Sunday In particular, the young people called for a development of an art or music scene as well as leisure programs on weekends. Improved shops and more green areas were also desired. Visions of young citizens range from an innovative city with environmental awareness to long opening times to an urban image that is comparable to cities like London and Paris.

The role of the community in urban development

The successful implementation of such ideas depends heavily on the active participation of the community. This plays a central role in urban development by not only providing resources, but also promoting the commitment of the citizens. This is particularly important to counter the challenges of urbanization, climate change and the integration of various population groups. The needs of the citizens should be focused on sustainable solutions
