Closing the Bolaring nursing home: What does that mean for the seniors?

The Bolaring senior care home in Salzburg is facing the end. Originally, the house was supposed to close due to an acute lack of nursing staff, which has caused great unrest for weeks. As early as November, there was resistance to the decision of the Social Land Council to reject the subsequent use of the building for those in need of care with mental or addictions. The SPÖ's social spokesman, Barbara Thöny, commented on the words: "The staff would be there, it is purely for money", and made it clear that the talks for subsequent use were already well advanced. The city of Salzburg must continue to pay a rent of 150,000 euros per year to the owner GSWB, while 40 people are on the waiting list to enter the Bolaring, as reported.

The situation for the 20 seniors currently living in Bolaring will change shortly. They are supposed to move to the Taxham senior citizens' house - only one of them wants to go to another district due to a long -cherished wish. Christoph Baumgärtner, the head of the urban senior citizens' institutions, urges politics to improve the care situation to improve the care situation. He emphasizes that the nursing staff reach their limits and urgently needs a solution to avoid further closures of retirement homes. In particular, houses 1 and 2 in Itzling, which are in a poor structural condition, are up for discussion, such as political pressure and future measures

In the state parliament committee, an amendment to change has now been decided to provide necessary financial resources. There are efforts to realize transitional care by the diakonia, which has so far failed due to the financing. According to Karl Zallinger, the will to the solution is given by the ÖVP, but it remains to be seen whether the political actors are able to master the pressing challenges in the nursing sector promptly.
