New Thursday demos in Vienna: Protest against FPÖ and Kickl
In Vienna, the "Thursday demos" were revived. The rally took place in front of the parliament, in which around 200 people protested against the strengthening of the FPÖ. The demo was organized by left -wing groups and small parties that presented signs such as "never Kickl" or "Nazis out". A group called "Thursday" is planning further demos, whose start for October 3. is planned in front of the national parliament.
The "Thursday demos" are a long tradition in Vienna and are directed against political alliances. In the past, they protested against the coalitions of the ÖVP and FPÖ among former lawns. In the year 2000 and 2017 there were massive protests against the government parties.
After a corruption scandal and the subsequent slump, the right -wing populist FPÖ with Herbert Kickl at the top makes an amazing comeback. The party rejects measures to cope with Corona pandemic, climate change and blames migrants.
The National Council election brought the FPÖ a win with 28.9 percent of the vote. The conservative ÖVP comes to 26.3 percent. The International Auschwitz Committee expressed concern about the strengthening of the extreme right under Herbert Kickl.
