Hesse shifts salary increase: civil servants are outraged!

In Hesse there is excitement: the officials have to adjust to a delay in their salary increase! Instead of as planned in August 2025, the second increase is only paid by 5.5 percent from December 2025. Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) announced this when the budget draft for 2025. The reason for the shift is the tense finances of the country that require savings of 45 million euros per month.

The first increase of 4.8 percent remains and will come into force on February 1, 2025 as planned. While the government emphasizes that no cuts in internal security and education are made, the decision ensures massive criticism. Unions are outraged and speak of a "special victim" of the officials on behalf of the debt brake. Michael Rudolph, chairman of the DGB Hessen-Thuringia, comments upset: "Estimate looks different!"

economic crisis as an excuse?

The deputy Prime Minister Kaweh Mansori (SPD) justifies the decision as necessary in order to ensure social cohesion and economic support in Hesse. "We are in a serious economic crisis," he explains. But the officials feel unfairly treated. Jens Mohrherr, state chairman of the police union (GdP), criticizes: "The officials are kicked against the shin." The officials require an appropriate remuneration for their services and demand that commitments are not terminated on one side.

Prime Minister Rhein tries to smooth the waves by indicating the inflation compensation base of 3,000 euros that has already been paid. He emphasizes job security for civil servants and hopes for an economic recovery by a new federal government. But the dissatisfaction remains noticeable, while the officials have to wait for their well -deserved salary increase.
