Bundestag election in Kernen: Now apply for postal voting documents quickly!

On Sunday, February 23, 2025, the Bundestag election takes place in Kernen. The date of the election was recently announced, which has a significant impact on the organization of the election process. The short preparation time in particular requires a rapid election campaign. Mayor Benedikt Paulowitsch also spoke about the compensation of the election workers in the last council meeting of the past year.

The election documents will not be sent until the beginning of February. The mayor therefore recommends applying for the postal voting documents as quickly as possible to ensure that all voters receive the necessary information in good time.

Details on postal voting

like Bundesag.de reported, the voters have two ways of voting: the urn election on election day and the postal vote. Due to the early election date, the period for applying for postal voting was shortened. Voters must submit their application for postal voting documents to the municipality as soon as possible.

An application can also be made without election notification and can be made verbally or informally in writing, for example by email. Family and first names, date of birth and living address must be given. In many municipalities, an online request for the documents is also possible, while telephone applications are not permitted.

The postal voting documents should be sent by Monday, February 10 at the latest. The last throw -in date for the election letters is Thursday, February 20. The election letters must be received by the municipal authority by 6 p.m. on the election day, since incoming documents are not taken into account after this time.

The postal voting documents contain both the voting register and the ballot paper, with the ballot in a blue envelope and, together with the voting register, in a red envelope. The postal voting, which has existed since 1957 and was simplified in 2008, is becoming increasingly popular. In the 2021 federal election, the proportion of letter voters was 47.3%, which corresponds to over 22.1 million votes, while the proportion was still 28.6% in 2017.
