Viennese election campaign: posters devastated! Secret surveys reveal tensions!
With only two weeks until the Vienna City Council and Landtag election on April 27, 2025, current surveys show a largely stagnating political landscape in the capital. According to current data from crown , the social democratic party remains Austria (SPÖ) with a vote of 38.9 percent at the top.
The Freedom Party in Austria (FPÖ) follows 21.7 percent, which represents a significant increase in 14.5 percent compared to the 2020 election. The Greens remain stable at around 12 percent, while the ÖVP recorded a decline compared to the previous year with 11.2 percent. The NEOs are currently 9.3 percent and thus fifth place.
election trends and coalition options
The count also shows that the SPÖ and FPÖ have a total of 54 out of 100 seats in the local council, which makes a new edition of the red-pink coalition appear questionable. A five percent hurdle must be overcome so that parties such as the KPÖ/left (3.7 percent) and the HC Strache (around 2 percent) team can move into the local council.
Another analysis of politpro.eu shows a very similar election trend. Here the SPÖ is 38.8 percent, while the FPÖ has a minimal increase at 21.9 percent. The changes in the last 30 days are low: the ÖVP has an increase of 1.0 percent, while the SPÖ had to accept a loss of 0.6 percent.
- SPÖ: 38.8%
- FPÖ: 21.9%
- Greens: 12%
- ÖVP: 11.3%
- neos: 9%
- kpö: 3.7%
- Team HC Strache: 2%
- other parties: 1.3%
The government parties' votes are currently 51.0 percent, with the SPÖ with 42 MPs and the Greens with 13 deputies. The NEOS and the ÖVP each have 9 and 12 MPs, while the FPÖ ported 24 MPs. A majority for government formation requires 51 out of 100 MPs.
defaces in the election campaign
A significant proportion of the election campaign is shaped by the increased number of defenses of the election posters. The report by krone indicates that the posters of the FPÖ and HC Strache are particularly affected. The Institute for Graffiti Research reports record numbers of deformities. The examples of critical slogans extend to the name of the FPÖ candidate Dominik Nepp to disparages from the SPÖ mayor Michael Ludwig.
Overall, the upcoming election on April 27 promises an exciting competition between the parties, while the political landscape in Vienna may experience decisive changes over the coming years.
