Vienna chooses: The youngest district manager challenges SPÖ strongholds!
Ottakring, Österreich - On April 27, 2025, the municipal council and district representative elections will take place in Vienna, which can stand for political changes and an important catalyst in urban development. The upcoming elections take a look at the districts and their political actors. The situation in Ottakring is particularly interesting, where Stefanie Lamp, born in 1989, will take up the youngest district manager for election. She only took over her office in early 2024 by Franz Prokop, who steered the district's fortunes for almost 20 years.
Ottakring is a district with a long tradition of the SPÖ rule. Since 1946, the Social Democrats have been presenting all district heads in this region. In the last district representation election in 2020, the SPÖ achieved 39.03% of the votes, followed by the Greens with 20.01% and the ÖVP with 16.83%. The Seats in the Ottakring district representative are distributed over a total of 60 mandates. Other parties standing for election are, among others, Neos, FPÖ, KPÖ and the new political groups Herz, Söz, HC and links.
political tradition in Landstrasse
In the neighboring district of Landstrasse, the proven district head Erich Hohenberger celebrates his 35th anniversary at the end of 2024. Here, too, the SPÖ has a dominant role, it has been at the top of the 3rd district since 1946. In the last election, the SPÖ received 37.02% of the votes, while the Greens reached 23.10% and the ÖVP 17.07%. In Landstrasse, too, the seats are distributed to a total of 60, and voters can look forward to a similar spectrum of parties as in Ottakring.
The lists for the elections also include Neos, FPÖ, KPÖ and many smaller parties such as heart, HC and Söz. This list gives hope for an exciting election campaign in which the established parties have to assert themselves while new voices could be heard.
