Nehammer finally withdraws from politics: end of an era!
Österreich - Karl Nehammer, the controversial former Chancellor, is now completely withdrawing from politics. After he has already resigned the Chancellery and the chair of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), he will also no longer belong to the National Council. As reported by krone.at , his official letter of withdrawal is still pending, but at the latest by the next meeting of the National Council on January 22, this step will be taken. This procedure follows the failure of the coalition negotiations with the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) and the NEOS, which caused him to give up all political offices.
With the retreat in Nehammer, a political career ends that experienced many ups and downs. The 52-year-old was considered a promoted ÖVP and, after a short time, appointed himself from the Member of the National Council to the Interior Minister and finally Chancellor. But according to the Exxpress he led the party into a deep crisis. His politics led to a massive loss of voters and the ÖVP is now faced with the challenge of regaining their credibility. Christian Stocker, the former Secretary General, now takes over the party chair and conduct coalition talks with the FPÖ, while Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg takes over the federal political management interim. Nehamer's resignation is not only the end of an era for him, but also a dramatic turning point for the entire People's Party.
