Kickl calls for U-Committee: ÖVP in shortage of explanation on Corona measures!

Österreich - Today, the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) has submitted an application for an investigation committee to the Interior Ministry, which is led by the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). The focus of this committee will be on the Causa Pilnacek and the measures during Corona pandemic. This reports Kosmo . There are currently over 800 parliamentary inquiries in connection with Covid, which also fuels the debate about responsibilities and measures during pandemic.

FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl, who recently focused on the discussion, rejected speculation about “trauma” due to failed ambitions for the chancellor. He emphasized that he was standing by his beliefs and that they do not give up for offices. Kickl clearly sees the failure of the coalition negotiations at the ÖVP and criticizes their lack of interest in rethinking. Forecasts a picture that the ÖVP will take the first opportunity to replace Sebastian Stocker.

debate in the National Council

As part of a special meeting of the National Council, the FPÖ called for an urgent request to clarify political influence among government members of the ÖVP. ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS reacted with criticism on the application and described the object of investigation as "confused". Insider of the Greens also commented critically with regard to the Causa Pilnacek, but pointed out that the application as a whole was not convincing, such as OTS reported.

FPÖ politicians like Susanne Fürst and Elisabeth Hot Hot expressed concerns about the occupations of former politicians in new positions and the Corona measures. Kickl also found that information and factual acting should be in the foreground in the U-Committee instead of pursuing the Inquisition-based approaches. Critics from the ÖVP, on the other hand, classified the application of the FPÖ as "confused war", while members of the SPÖ demanded a clear reason for the allegations.

follow and outlook

The current developments lead to an increased political tension in Austria, especially since the FPÖ has positioned itself as a new opposition power after Kickl was considered a possible Chancellor at short notice. The current government consists of ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS that put the FPÖ under pressure, since two new committees of investigation are expected in election year 2024. A committee will deal with the possible preference of ÖVP-related billionaires in the payment of corona aids, while the second examines the allegations of abuse against the SPÖ and FPÖ, such as the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.

The first committee could take a close look at the role of investor René Benko and possible financial entanglements with former government members such as Sebastian Kurz and Gernot Blümel. The tension in the political arena is expected to increase enormously while the parties are preparing for the upcoming elections.
