FPÖ starts election campaign: radical redistribution for Viennese nurses and pensioners!
Floridsdorf, Österreich - On March 28, 2025, the Viennese FPÖ officially started its election campaign. The election start took place in the home district of Mayor Michael Ludwig, in Floridsdorf. Dominik Nepp, the state party chairman of the FPÖ Vienna, took the opportunity to criticize the city government and in particular Ludwig. He made the demand for a radical redistribution of social expenditure of 700 million euros, which is currently flowing to non-Austrian recipients of minimum security. Nepp argued that this redistribution was necessary to improve the financial situation of many Viennese.
The target groups planned by the FPÖ for redistribution are nurses, teachers, children at risk of poverty, needy pensioners and police officers. The specific support measures include a monthly bonus of 1000 euros for nurses, an additional 400 euros for teachers and a single bonus of 2000 euros for retired Viennese. In addition, there should be permanent financial support for women and children at risk of poverty.
criticism of the minimum security
The FPÖ has currently started the second phase of its election campaign, which also focuses on criticism of the minimum security. NPP emphasizes that 1.2 billion euros are spent on social benefits in Vienna annually, of which 700 million euros go to non-Austrians. This represents an unjust burden, especially for those people who work hard or have paid into the social system for many years.
The FPÖ also sees itself in a solidarity community with the pensioners. A central concern is to better protect them, especially from the upcoming increases in health insurance contributions, which will lead to higher costs for retirees. NPP criticizes that decide how to distribute funds is not in the interest of the Viennese citizens, but in favor of financial support for people who have not worked in Vienna.
redistribution and security policy claims
The possibility of redistribution of social benefits is questioned, however, since they are regulated by law. Nevertheless, the FPÖ calls for a realignment of these funds to enable the financial relief of working Viennese and pensioners. At the same time, the party warns of the consequences of a “police savings” that could lead to an additional burden on the security situation in Vienna. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) is planning a less occupied police presences in embassy protection, which is considered problematic in view of the current debates about rising violent crimes such as knife attacks and rapes.
The FPÖ also suggests that the 700 million euros from the so -called "asylum millions" for other decisive purposes such as additional 2000 euros for retirees or higher salaries for nursing staff, police officers and teachers. It remains to be seen how these political demands and the election campaign will develop in the context of the upcoming elections.
