Buschmann becomes the new FDP general secretary-on choice!

Berlin, Deutschland - A political quake shakes the FDP: former Justice Minister Marco Buschmann becomes the new general secretary of the party. This was confirmed by a party spokesman after the "Bild" newspaper reported on the personnel. Buschmann takes over the office of Bijan Djir-Sarai, who had resigned on Friday due to a controversial strategy paper, known as "D-Day" paper. This document describes scenarios in the military language for a possible exit of the FDP from the coalition with the SPD and the Greens.

Buschmann emphasized that he feels honored and had to find answers to boost the economy and protect the freedom from excessive bureaucracy, as taz.de reported. Meanwhile, the FDP is exposed to massive criticism: Chancellor Olaf Scholz accused the party of having sabotaged government activities and pointed out that the coalition broke up after months of turbulence. It remains unclear whether party leader Christian Lindner really from the explosive paper, which contains military metaphors such as "open field battle", knew nothing, as he explained.

election campaign under pressure

Given the upcoming new elections to the German Bundestag on February 23, the FDP is exposed to enormous pressure. The party's survey value is currently only 3 to 4 percent and thus significantly moves away from the critical five percent hurdle. The situation is worrying for the liberal, especially after the resignation of Djir-Sarai and the rise of the new general secretary, who must immediately organize the election campaign, such as oe24.at reported.

In the middle of this turbulence there are also private news: Christian Lindner and his wife Franca Lehfeldt expect their first child to be born in spring 2025. Although private happiness is in a strong contrast to the political challenges, it remains to be seen how the FDP will be in the next elections.
