Government formation in Bulgaria: A compromise in stormy times!
Bulgarien - Bulgaria is facing a turn: The conservative Gerb party has joined three other parties into a government coalition that has 126 out of 240 seats in parliament. This was reported by Kleine Zeitung . The designated Prime Minister Stefan Jeliaskow said that all parties have overcome "serious ideological, political differences" and have taken "necessary compromises". President Rumen Radew plans to call a vote on the cabinet members on Thursday in order to end political uncertainty. This formal government formation is crucial for the country, which has been struggling with political crises regularly in the past three years.
The parliamentary election in October 2024 was the seventh within just three and a half years, which illustrates the effects of political instability. According to Wikipedia , 19 parties and nine coalitions occurred, whereby the result showed a still very fragmented political landscape. The Gerb won with 24.7 % of the vote, followed by the movement for rights and freedoms (DPS) and the reform alliance. Previous attempts to form government had failed several times, so that the country had to fall back on a managing government without sufficient parliamentary support.
