Protests in Georgia: Thousands demand return to EU integration!

In a spectacular rebellion, thousands of people in Georgia have gathered and show that the struggle for European integration is far from over! On Monday, the 12th day of the protests, the demonstrators flocked to the streets of Tbilisa to protest against the government's decision, to put the talks on the EU accession after controversial elections.

The anger is tangible! People not only call for a new election, but also a return to European integration. The protesters gathered in front of the parliament in the capital of Tbilis, while the political crisis continued to escalate in the Caucasian nation. The shock of the decision of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on November 28th to stop the EU accession talks triggered a wave of outrage that is reflected in the streets.

protests and police force

The police reaction to the protests was brutal! With tear gas and water cannons, the police tried to dispel the crowds. Since the beginning of the second wave of the riots, more than 400 people have been arrested. This violent oppression has not only caused outrage in Georgia, but also internationally. People are angry and cannot be intimidated!

On Monday, some demonstrators blew loudly on horns and whistles, while others kept a banner with the inscription "Less Russia is more freedom". This message is clear: people want to raise their voice and free themselves from Russian influence!

a Christmas tree in the middle of the protest

While the protests continue, the city of Tbilis has set up a huge Christmas tree on the sidewalk in front of the parliament. But the symbolism could not be stronger: the day before, photos of people who were allegedly beaten by the police and protest flyers were removed from the tree. A clear indication that the government tries to cover up reality while people are fighting for their rights!

The situation in Georgia remains tense and the protesters show no signs of decays. The demand for democracy and European integration is getting louder, and it remains to be seen how the government will react to this constant pressure. One thing is certain: the Georgians are ready to fight for their future!
