Large demonstration in Vienna: Syrian community celebrates change!
In Vienna, numerous Syrian citizens and their supporters celebrated the change of power in Syria on Sunday, the fall of the regime of Bashar al-Assad. In front of the State Opera, the demonstrators waved flags with the inscription "Free Syria" and, with their loud protest, called for the return of the displaced people to their liberated villages. According to the police, around 3,000 participants were registered for the large demonstration, which was organized by the "Free Syrian Community in Austria in solidarity with the Syrian Revolution" in order to clarify the support for the displaced in the camps.
demonstration is peaceful, but loudly
The demonstrators moved from the State Opera to the ring to parliament. Reports of eyewitnesses confirm that the train was accompanied by a large crowd at around 1.30 p.m., which ranged from the State Opera to the Burgring. In addition, participants reported on some fired firecrackers and fireworks, which, however, did not disturb the peaceful course of the protest. The call for this rally was all about an orderly and peaceful transition process in Syria, as well as the Foreign Ministry emphasized in a statement that pointed out the importance of human rights and the protection of ethnic and religious minorities.
The organizers predicted a participation of several thousand people, which underlines the great encouragement and the importance of this event. [Puls24] reported on the strong influx and the positive atmosphere during the rally, while [Wien.at] emphasized the demands for a stable and inclusive political process.
