Beppe Grillo and the five stars: Does the former power party break?
In a dramatic turning point, the Italian comedian Beppe Grillo, founder of the once influential five-star movement, declared them "dead". In a video on his blog, however, the 76-year-old confirmed that the "soil on which it was created was still alive". This step illustrates the escalating dispute between Grillo and the current party leader Giuseppe Conte for months. Grillo is now planning legal measures to recover the party he designed-a step that could force the content to start its own center-left party instead of continuing the five stars that are currently the second strongest opposition party in the Italian parliament, as well as on OE24 reports .
intrigue and power struggles
The conflict between Grillo and Conte has intensified after a majority of the party members voted in a "constituent assembly" for the abolition of grillos themselves created. This post had originally been set up to protect the founding values of the five stars. Conte, which has been running the party since 2021, tries to change from the original protest movement towards a more stable, left -wing party. Grillo criticized this course as a betrayal on the basic democratic principles of the party and accused Conte of adapting too much to the political establishment. This led to the decision of Conte, Grilllos Annual Treaty as a communications consultant for over 300,000 euros, such as reported online
The realignment of the five stars was made against the background of a dramatic decline in election results in recent years when it fell below ten percent of the votes in the EU elections in June. In order to revitalize the party, Conte had convened a party convention. Most recently, however, the members were under pressure on alliances with other parties: a ban was rejected, but developments could now enable closer cooperation with the largest opposition party, the Partito Democratico (PD), in the fight against the current right government of Giorgia Meloni.
