Two debutants at DFB: Nations League squad surprises fans!

Herzogenaurach, Deutschland - Germany has announced its squad for the final four tournament of the Nations League. The new national coach Julian Nagelsmann has appointed two debutants in the selection: Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart and Tom Bischof von TSG Hoffenheim. While Woltemade's nomination has already been announced in advance, Bischof's calling is surprising after playing a strong season with five goals and two templates in 31 games.

In addition to the two debutants, nine players celebrate their comeback in the DFB team. Serge Gnabry, Robin Gosens, Waldemar Anton, Niclas Füllkrug, Florian Wirtz, Felix Nmecha, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Marc-André Ter Stegen are back. These players had missed the last meeting with Italy. The return of Marc-André Ter Stegen, which has not been in use in September 2024, was not particularly remarkable.

injuries affect the contingent

The German national team, however, has to do without some key players. Jamal Musiala and Antonio Rüdiger did not make it in time to become fit for the tournament. Kai Havertz as well as Nico Schlotterbeck and Tim Kleindienst are also missing due to injuries. The squad comprises a total of 26 players, including goalkeepers such as Oliver Baumann and Alexander Nübel.

In the semi -finals, Germany will meet Portugal on June 4th. In the event of a victory, a meeting with either France or the European champion Spain in the final could wait for the team. Preparations are already underway, with a meeting of the national team on May 30th in Herzogenaurach.

Bischof's calling is particularly remarkable because it was originally planned for the U21 European Championship. Due to the FIFA regulations, however, he had to be appointed to the A-team. With his upcoming move to Bayern Munich, where he will take part in the club World Cup, the young player could be an exciting time.

Overall, the DFB squad is a mix of experienced returnees and up-and-coming talents, which makes the upcoming challenges in the Nations League exciting. [Laola1] reports that Nagelsmann pursues the goal of bringing the success of German football back to the big stage with his selection.
