background for old -age insurance

The topic of the event is linked to the basic structures of old -age insurance, which is divided into three pillars: public old -age insurance, company pension scheme and private pension. These models are crucial for the financial security of older people and differ internationally in design and financing.

Public old -age insurance in Germany, for example, includes various models that are intended to ensure the livelihood of the older generation regardless of family support or private provision. This includes models such as the wiring model, the basic pension model and social security, which pursue all different approaches to financing and performance level. These differences will become increasingly relevant in the context of the demographic changes and the financial sustainability of the pension systems.

With regard to future challenges, the willingness of younger generations to finance the pensions of the older generations will also become increasingly the discussion topic. This area of tension between the generations is at the center of the considerations for the sustainable design of the pension system.

The event on June 4, 2025 will thus become an important contribution in the current debate about the future of old -age insurance in Austria and beyond. For more information and the live stream transmission, please visit the Parliament website.
