Wild accident on B 108: Rehkitz jumps on the street - two injuries!
On Friday, June 7, 2025, there was a game accident on the B 108 Felbertauern Straße in East Tyrol, in which two people were injured. The 18-year-old driver was on the road with four other passengers in Lienz when a fawn suddenly jumped onto the road. Despite his attempt to avoid the animal, the driver lost control of the vehicle and came off the street, touching two guiding plots. The car finally stopped about 200 meters away, and the two injuries were brought to the accident outpatient clinic to Lienz, as [5min.at reports] (https://www.5min.at/52025060619/unfall-in-Osttirol-ploetzlich-stal-stehkitz-auf-der-strasse/).
The B 108 Felbertauern Straße, a former federal road, connects the Pinzgau with East Tyrol and was opened on June 25, 1967. In recent years there have been several serious incidents, including a fatal traffic accident in June 2021 and a slope slip in May 2013, which led to extensive street work. Road is currently 36 kilometers long with a crap tunnel of 5,313 meters, which makes it an important transport connection in the region, as SN.AT represents.
game accidents in Austria
Wild accidents, such as those who took place on Friday, are a real problem in Austria. Every year, around 300 such accidents occur in which around 330 people are injured and 1-2 people live their lives. The statistics also show that around 77,000 wild animals are killed by road traffic. In order to counteract this problem, interdisciplinary researchers have launched a project called Wildwarn inside, which is led by AIT Austria Institute of Technology. The project aims to analyze the causes and relationships between game accidents and to develop suitable preventive measures, avoid damaged vehicles and injured animals, as reports ait.ac.at.
By analyzing various data sources, including satellite images, traffic power and accident statistics, more precise risk cards are to be created. The results of the project are to be made accessible to the infrastructure operators and the vehicle control in order to achieve a better understanding and risk reduction in critical zones.
