Wiener SPÖ presents a new government team: Novak as a finance councilor!

Wien, Österreich - On June 4, 2025, Mayor Michael Ludwig presented the new government team of the SPÖ for Vienna. The SPÖ will be represented with six seats in the 13-member city senate and the state government. The familiar faces include Vice Mayor Kathrin Gaál, Jürgen Czernohorszky, Peter Hacker, Veronica Kaup-Hasler and Ulli Sima, all of whom will keep their previous positions. Barbara Novak, previously state party secretary, takes on the role of the new city councilor for finance, business, work, international and digital.

Peter Hanke, previously a financial city council, has left the government to switch to the federal government. Christoph Maschek will interfere with the city's financial transactions. Gaál remains responsible for residential construction, urban renewal and women. Sima takes care of urban planning, mobility and Wiener Stadtwerke, while Czernohorszky heads the areas of climate, environment, democracy, personnel and Viennese baths. Kaup-Hasler is responsible for culture, science and the Viennese adult education centers, and Hacker remains responsible for social affairs, health and sport.

New government program and changes in the state party

The presentation of the new government program of SPÖ and Neos took place on June 3, 2025 in the Vienna City Hall. Ludwig and Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling lead the coalition, which has 53 out of 100 mandates in the municipal council. The program, entitled "Recovery Coalition", reacts to current challenges and focuses on economic impulses and social cohesion. In particular, measures to strengthen Vienna and investments in digitization and technology should be promoted.

Future projects include the expansion of photovoltaics, geothermal energy and the creation of 400,000 square meters of new parking and green areas. Furthermore, the application for the execution of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is in the room. A central goal is the climate neutrality by 2040. In addition, a “Viennese integration code” is worked out to define rules for living together in the city, as well as measures to improve language support in kindergarten.

With Jörg Neumayer, a new state party secretary will move up to take the post of Barbara Novak. In the constituent meeting of the municipal council on June 10, 2025, all nominees must be elected and praised. Ludwig favors Josef Taucher as a club chairman. In addition, Christian Meidlinger is the first and Gerhard Schmid as the third president of the state parliament. The FPÖ remains represented with three non -managing city councils in the city senate, while the Greens and the ÖVP each provide two and a non -managing city council.
