services of the students
The certificate of documents in Vienna took place on May 15, 2025, so that the successful students were honored for their hard work and their commitment in mathematics. Education director Heinrich Himmer emphasized the importance of such competitions for the development of key qualifications in the field of mathematics. Mathematical knowledge is essential in many areas of life, such as software programming or financial world.
The tasks of the competition are varied and demand the participants in different ways. An example of a math task of the 7th-8. School level was: "Frida receives the ball 100 times. Question: How many children never get the ball?" The solution to this task was (d) 25 children. Such questions help to deepen the mathematical understanding of the participating students and form an excellent basis for future mathematical challenges.
committed participation
In addition to the "kangaroo of mathematics", there are many other mathematics events supported by organizations such as the Stifterverband to promote interest in mathematics outside of regular school lessons. In the case of nationwide math competitions, not only knowledge is required, but also creative problem solving is required, which makes the competition attractive to the students.
The International Mathematics Olympics (IMO) is the world's largest event of this kind, with Germany regularly one of the top ten nations. A large number of mathematics competitions ensure that young talents are challenged and promoted and that mathematical education is secured in the future.
