Viennese coalition: SPÖ and NEOS present new pact on Tuesday!
Wien, Österreich - SPÖ and NEOS have agreed a new edition of their cooperation in Vienna. The content of the coalition will be presented on Tuesday, May 30, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. in the coat of arms of the town hall. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) and Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling (NEOS) will appear at the event. However, the new members of the city government are not yet presented. So far, little material has been leaked from the negotiations, and the exact number of people in the city senate remains unknown.
The cooperation between the SPÖ and Neos is supported by the result of the Vienna election on April 27, 2025, which enables the continuation of the cooperation. SPÖ and NEOS grew slightly in this election, whereby the SPÖ came to almost 40% and the NEOS over the 10 percent hurdle. Nevertheless, the SPÖ is faced with the loss of three seats in the municipal council, while the NEOs grew up two seats. Together they now have 53 out of 100 mandates in the future municipal council. The time of the constituent session is still open, but is expected after Pentecost.
Details about the coalition
The SPÖ, which has been at the government since 2020, must agree to the new pact by Wednesday at the latest. In addition, the NEOs need a state members' meeting, which is expected to take place on the Pentecost weekend, probably on Saturday. The negotiations and the upcoming presentations represent an important step in the political landscape of the city.
As a reminder: In November 2020, Michael Ludwig was elected mayor, and the managing city councilors were also determined. Among other things, Peter Hanke are responsible for the Finance, Economy and Work group as well as Christoph Return for Education and Integration. The city government includes various business groups that deal with specific topics such as social, health, health, sports, living, innovation, environment and culture, which have all their own responsibilities and magistrate departments, as explained on the official website of the city of Vienna.
In summary, it can be said that the upcoming developments in Vienna will bring important changes for the city government. The presentation on Tuesday is eagerly awaited because it will set the framework for the future cooperation between the SPÖ and NEOS.Details | |
