Vienna's cycle path offensive: 24 km new bicycle lines for more green and security!
Gänsehäufel, Wien, Österreich - Vienna is preparing for a large cycle path offensive! On April 1st, 19 cycle path projects are on the agenda of the mobility committee, such as wien.gv.at . Particularly noteworthy is the continuous bicycle connection from the U1 and the Radhighway Nord to the popular outdoor pool Gänsehäufel and the Klimahighway in Floridsdorf. Mobility City Councilor Ulli Sima emphasizes the importance of an attractive wheel infrastructure and announces that 24 kilometers of new cycling infrastructure should be created this year. Other projects, including the two-direction cycle path in Schödelbergergasse, are to lead to the popular goosebonic.
The offensive in Floridsdorf aims at a comprehensive improvement in the cycle path networks. Among other things, two kilometers of new cycle paths along Floridsdorfer Hauptstraße and Prager Straße, which will offer the existing rooms more security and comfort, are planned. A new two-way bike path on Floridsdorfer Hauptstraße and a secure connection on Prague Straße should form finish points for previously inadequate routes. In addition, new trees have been planted that will provide cooling and shadow.
The Klimahighway: An environmentally friendly traffic concept
The idea of the Klimahighway, which is implemented in the 21st district, is particularly promising. Instead of a formerly planned motorway, a climate -friendly bike connection from the Old Danube to the Marchfeld Canal is created here. Not only the traffic conditions for cyclists are improved, but also new green spaces are created, which makes a contribution to urban greenery. The Klimahighay is designed sustainably and offers a continuous bike connection, from which future generations will also benefit.
Through these developments and the focus on a safe and attractive cycling infrastructure, the Vienna city government wants to make cycling even more popular in everyday life. It turns out that this commitment bears fruit: The current modal split survey indicates an increase in the cycle traffic share to 11 percent and proves the success of the committed cycle path offensive.
