Wien families pay attention: Today free swimming courses for kids start!
As of today, Viennese families can apply for 1,068 free places in the urban holiday swimming courses. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and only takes place online. The places are awarded according to the order of the registrations. The program "Water adventure - free swimming courses" is aimed at children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 17 and takes place in a total of seven urban baths. The initiative is financed by the child and youth million, a program of the city of Vienna, which provides one million euros every two years for projects proposed by young people.
The courses offered include 164 events lasting several days, including eight special “water fun” courses for younger participants. Each course consists of ten units and is carried out in small groups of a maximum of six people. The swimming courses are managed by qualified teachers from the Vienna baths and offer the participants the opportunity to acquire swimming badges. In addition, every participating person receives free admission for an accompanying person.

The project is a direct implementation of ideas that were brought in by young people from the Jugendzentrum Just Wienerberg. Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling praised the commitment of young people in Vienna, who actively contribute to improving their city. The introduction of free swimming courses is considered an important element to give children and adolescents access to sporting activities and thus promote health and social well -being.
financing and perspectives
The project is financed through the child and youth million, which has existed since 2021 and supports the creativity of young people. At the last round, 148 ideas were submitted, of which 10 projects were selected for implementation. The funding pot is managed by a broad participation and participation of the young people, which promotes an active contribution to urban design.
With these swimming courses, not only swimming skills should be conveyed, but also social interaction should be strengthened, which is of great importance in today's world. Registration that begins today will prepare the first potential swimmers best for the upcoming summer weeks in the water.
