Resis.danse: Women dance differently - an association for compulsory roles

in the heart of Vienna, more precisely in the Wieden district, there is a very special dance club that managed to question and change social norms. The association "resis.danse" gives women the opportunity to dance beyond traditional role assignments and that in an environment that is characterized by respect and acceptance.

Karin Erhart, the committed director of the association, played a central role. This dance club was founded almost four decades ago, at a time when it was common in the classic dance schools that men took over the leading and only followed women. Erhart experienced in her youth how uncomfortable it can be to be pushed into a given role. After a short time in a dance school, she looked for alternatives and finally found impressive like -minded people in the women's dance club.

a place of freedom without roling compulsion

The association "Resis.danse" offers a space in which women are completely free in the design of the dance. Here you do not have to slip into the classic role of a dancing woman, but can be creative as you want. With a team of 20 women who work on a voluntary basis, the association regularly organizes dance events in the GUGG, at Heumühlgasse 14. There is a particular attention that only a contribution to expenses is required to enable participation for everyone.

A decisive aspect of club life is the support and exchange among the participants. The close contact with the homosexual initiative (Hosi) Vienna plays an important role in this, since the events are open to all women, regardless of their sexual orientation. So you will not only find couples here, but also mothers with daughters or sisters who live out their joy in dance together. Sometimes the husband simply stays at home due to the lack of interest, laughs.

Online registrations are possible via the website www.resis.danse.at . In the many workshops and dance evenings, numerous friendships and relationships have emerged over the years. Many couples have also gained a foothold in the world of same -sex tournament dance, which Erhart fulfills with pride.

However, the training did not always work smoothly. At a time when same -sex dances were often affected with prejudices, the training often took place at unusual times to avoid unwanted looks. Erhart remembers that it was a risky undertaking at the time because hostility was the order of the day. Even today it turns out that despite the feeling of progress in society there is still a lot of work ahead of us.

The situation has improved, but there is a need to fight out against outdated thought patterns. The association "resis.danse" sees itself as a duty to resist and to set an example for all women who have the need to dance and live independently. This significant work was appreciated accordingly, and Karin Erhart was honored for her voluntary work as a heroine on the Wieden, an honor that underlines her outstanding performance in the community.

The program "Wiener Heldinnen", in which Erhart talks about her experiences, will be broadcast on "W24" on Sunday at 7 p.m.
