Federal Environment Agency was moving in Vienna's 3rd district in 2026: a new, central location

The Federal Environment Agency, which originally planned to move to Klosterneuburg in Lower Austria, now remains in Vienna. According to a message from Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens), the office will move to a new location in the 3rd district, which is a central and sustainable solution for the 650 employees.

The minister was pleased to be expressed by this decision and emphasized that all employees will work in one place in the future, which could promote cooperation. "The Federal Environment Agency has a new location and is moved in the 3rd Vienna district," says Gewessler to X. The move is planned for 2026.

Details on the new location

The choice of the location fell on the Erdberger Lände 40, known as "Enna". This property was owned by ÖBB until 2023. An important criterion for the decision was the environmental protection: the existing building in a formerly used location ensures that no new areas have to be sealed. In addition, this step avoids considerable CO₂ emissions that arise when a new building is built. Gewessler described this as "win-win for everyone".

The original plans to move the Federal Environment Agency to Klosterneuburg met with strong resistance. In particular, the workforce, environmental organizations as well as the city of Vienna and the Chamber of Labor expressed their concerns and carried out protests. This decision shows that the concerns of those affected have been taken seriously. It seems as if the new solution satisfies everyone involved and secures a long -term, stable location for the Federal Environment Agency.
