Simmeringer Christkindlmarkt: a festival of warmth and local delights

Winter is closer, and that means that the Simmeringer Christkindlmarkt at the Enkplatz has opened its doors again. On four days a week, visitors can warm themselves with hot drinks and enjoy local delicacies. The official opening took place on Thursday, November 14th, despite the still visible remnants of construction site around the redesigned place.

The atmosphere was festive when district leader Thomas Steinhart (SPÖ) together with various representatives, including from the church to the immaculate conception and the artist of the exhibition "Querblick-Kitlatz", which initiated the event. Hot drinks were offered before the official celebrations to welcome the first guests.

special stands and local specialties

An outstanding stand is that of the non -profit association "D 'Nassn Füass", which is placed in front of the church building. There is a selection of drinks such as turbopunts and mulled wine, whereby the income benefits the families with impaired children in Simmering. The club has an eventful history, founded in 1921, his name was created from a touching moment when children complained during a heavy rain: "My füass are wet!"

The culinary diversity of the market is supplemented by Stefans Grill, which offers delicious Balkan specialties such as Cevapcici Burger. Wolfgang Stand has an appealing selection for sweet tooth, including fruits covered with chocolate and the largest selection of gingerbread hearts in Simmering.

The neighboring district of Landstrasse also presents itself at the Enkplatz with "Di Grillo", a stand that offers Italian delicacies such as wild boar salami with truffles and pancetta. The Italian flair certainly attracts many visitors.

punch creations and upcoming events

Another highlight is the well-known "Frog cocktail bar", which is also represented this year with varied punch creations. From Waldbeer punch with whipped cream to Jack Daniels-punch, the selection should not only be interesting for locals.

A small drop of bitterness was the absence of Father Jan Soroka, who could not come to the opening due to illness. District head Steinhart promised, however, that the blessing would be made up for. The planned highlights for December, such as the Advent wreath consecration on December 1st and the visit of the Christ child on December 21st, nothing stands in the way of now.

The market is open from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday and offers a Christmas hustle and bustle for young and old until December 22nd.
