10 years of deaconate: Alfred Zimmel and his special role in Altseimmering

On October 27, 2024, a very special event took place in the St. Josef branch church on the Haide: Deacon Alfred Zimmel celebrated his 10th anniversary. Together with the other two deacons of the parish of Altsimering, Franz Schrammel and Thomas (IVL) Schmid, this significant moment was duly committed with a word service. Unfortunately, Pastor Christian Maresch had to cancel at short notice because he had health problems, but that did not detract from the festive mood. Thanks to the lively music group under the direction of Gerda Jelenc, those present experienced a nice and contemplative service.

An important aspect of the diaconate celebration was the sermon by Franz Schrammel, who emphasized the role of deacons. These “helpers of the bishop” are responsible for carrying the good news into people's life realities and reminding the church of their task, taking care of the spiritual and material needs of society. The parish of Altsimmering has the special, three constant deacons in its ranks. Deacon Zimmel's commitment was particularly highlighted, especially in liturgy, where he celebrates most services in the branch church.

Alfred Zimmel's commitment to the altar servers was particularly recognized by Schrammel and Bernhard Wieczorek, the deputy chairman of the parish council. They emphasized that Zimmel and his team, led by Cornelia and Florian Müllner, were able to win many children for the service to the altar in an impressive way. This was also expressed by the presence of twelve altar servers, who gave the celebration a festive touch and underlined the importance of their service.

Pastor Maresch, who was absent for health reasons, nevertheless had his warm congratulations delivered to cock. Deacon Schmid read a letter in which Maresch expressed gratitude and recognition. "Your consecration for the constant deacon was a special feature for me as a new pastor. With you and the other deacons, we now have an extraordinary community of four deacons in our parish, which is really something unique," said the pastor. He continued to wish Alfred Zimmel many fulfilled years on duty and that he could always feel the friendship of Jesus, who accompanies and supports him on his life.

This celebration clearly shows the importance of deacons within the community and its commitment, which goes far beyond liturgy. The interaction of faith, community and service once again made it clear on this special day what role the deacons play in the parish of Alttsimmering. Deacon Alfred Zimmel can look back on a successful decade and looks into the future with confidence, strengthened by the recognition and thanks to his community.
