Drastic accident in Vienna-Hietzing: two young people seriously injured
A tragic incident occurred in Vienna-Hietzing when an 18-year-old man was seriously injured in an illegal subway surfing accident. The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at the Schönbrunn U4 station when he went on the roof of a train together with other men. According to the General Hospital Vienna (AKH), the state of the young person is still very critical.
Together with a 17-year-old companion, who also suffered life-threatening injuries, the 18-year-old was immediately taken to a hospital. There are currently no further information about his state of health. The group consisted of two Czech and two Austrian men who had climbed onto the roof of the train around 4:00 p.m.

the situation escalated when the two Czech men collided with a pedestrian bridge during the entrance to the Schönbrunn station. They were seriously injured. A third participant, a 16-year-old "surfer", stayed with light injuries, while the fourth in the group, a 13-year-old, was unharmed. In order to cope with the emotional consequences for the subway driver, he was subjected to psychological care through crisis intervention.
As a consequence of this incident, the operation of the U4 was temporarily interrupted between the stations Meidling Hauptstraße and Braunschweiggasse. The Viennese lines informed that they want to clarify the exact scenery of the accident through video evaluations and further investigations together with the police. These incidents illustrate the immense danger associated with such risky actions.
