A new park for Maria Lassnig: appreciation of a great artist

Maria Lassnig, one of the most important artists in Austria, has now also been honored posthumously with its own park. On the occasion of its 10th day of death, the Maria Lassnig-Park was opened in the artist: Interior district, which is an important recognition of their life's work for many. Lassnig, who actively worked on her art until 94 at the age of 94, leaves an impressive legacy. However, despite the artistic fame, the financial support often failed to materialize, which made it to apply for a scholarship at a young age and later spend two years in Berlin.

In the early 1980s, Austria finally began to support Lassnig's return by offering a professorship at the University of Applied Art. She was not only active as an artist, but also as a representative at international events such as the Biennale and the Documenta, often as a "first woman" in these positions. Her time in the small studio in Bräuhausgasse, which was its basis for almost thirty years, shaped her creative process immensely. For them, the participation of the beeennal was to organize from there, a sign of their tireless energy and their drive.

a life's work that deserves recognition

Although some of her most important successes only came at her advanced age, she held on to her passion and dedication. Maria Lassnig Malte and drew until shortly before her death and thus set a strong sign of creativity and perseverance in the art business, which is often challenging for women. Your life's work is now visible through the newly opened Maria Lassnig Park, a place that stands not only for your art, but also for the overarching struggles of women in art.

However, the idea remains that despite the construction of the park, every square meter of public space for important women must continue to be fought hard. The opening of the Maria Lassnig Park is a small but significant step in the right direction, which hopefully inspires more public recognition for women in art.
