State logistics center in Liesing: Gurkerl relies on regionality and innovation

In the Vienna-Liesing industrial area, near the Altmannsdorfer AST, Gurker, the subsidiary of the Czech Rohlik-Group, opened a state-of-the-art logistics center after one and a half years of construction. The central location enables customers to be supplied with a wide range of food and regional products within three hours.

The official opening took place on Tuesday during an event that summarized the last four years of the company and at the same time presented innovations. Mark Hübner, the new CEO of Gurkerl, explained the company's ambitious plans and emphasized the importance of regionality. "Half of our range comes from over 180 regional partners from Vienna and the surrounding area," he added. Hübner has been working in this role since November 2023 and brings plenty of experience from the online trade industry.

A look at the innovations

The modernized logistics center extends over 10,000 square meters and now contains high-automated warehouse and picking techniques. With an expansion of the range from 8,000 to 15,500 products on classic supermarket, drugstore and household items, the company expects an increase in efficiency. 300 articles of their own high -quality brands will also be available. These new products are to be offered at prices that meet the offers of inpatient trade.

The reaction of the regional producers to the new competitor is mixed. Some already have long -term partnerships with traditional retailers, while others see new opportunities and innovative ideas that Gurker brings into play. Hübner is convinced that the quick and reliable delivery that already works in the greater Vienna area shows even larger growth rates in other countries in the group.

Currently 330 employees work in the logistics center, which takes care of all aspects of the order. In March 2021, Gurkerl already crossed the 1,000 orders per day, and the latest statistics show a handling of up to 3,000 orders every day, which are worth around 100 euros on average. With the expansion of capacities, the company can even process up to 10,000 orders at the same time.

Numerous innovative steps are planned in the future. The focus is on increasing the supply of fresh food and ready meals from renowned Viennese restaurants. The range of own brands should also increase and expand a total of 500 products by the end of 2025. Improvements in the delivery processes should also lead to the company aiming for two hours of target time for deliveries.

A remarkable additional offer comes in the form of a new pharmacy, which is now also found in the logistics center of Gurkerl. The Beavit pharmacy, led by Ernst Baurek and his daughter, ensures that over -the -counter and advice is seamlessly integrated into the delivery service. "Our team of pharmacists not only offers products, but also individual advice," said Baurek. This represents real added value for customers who are not only delivered to their food, but also health products.

The celebrations at the start of the logistics center ended with a charity cooking duel in which well-known faces donated to support the make a wish foundation and the Lichtblickhof.
