Refurbishment of the Ambrosi studio: Cultural area for the future in Vienna
Refurbishment of the Ambrosi studio: Cultural area for the future in Vienna
In Vienna there is an exciting change: The castle main team is planning the gradual renovation of a historic building complex on the Augarten corner Scherzergasse/Lampigasse. This place was connected to the work of the sculptor Gustinus Ambrosi for a long time, whose studio and exhibitions took place here from the late 1970s to 2012 when the founder Francesca Habsburg rented the premises with her Foundation Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (TBA21). But the rooms have been more or less empty since they moved out.
The building was used temporarily from 2012, but now it should be brought back to life. Burghauptmann Reinhold Sahl said that pop-up will start in the coming spring to revitalize the area with cultural events. The preparation and implementation of these events is entrusted to an advisory board, which is directed by the former director of the Jewish Museum of Vienna, Danielle Spera. Other members include the well -known artist Eva Schlegel and the musician Edek Bartz.
cultural diversity in focus
A variety of events are already planned in the start phase. The topics range from exhibitions and performances to music and theater performances as well as scientific symposia. Specific content has not yet been determined, but the effort for a wide range is clearly noticeable. The studio itself, which is returned to its original state, should act as an event location and thus make an important cultural contribution.
A special highlight will be the "arik brewer lounge", which is to be created in the so-called ambrositract. Timna Brauer, who manages the works of her late father, the universal artist Arik Brauer, will take over the lead. This lounge will be temporary exhibition location for Brauers and thus close a gap that Vienna has so far had in one place for his work. It is planned that the exhibition of works from Brauer's private villa will be fed and that some sculptures may also be set up in the outdoor area.
long -term plans and challenges
The complete reopening of the complex, however, depends on the general renovation, which will cost up to five million euros. This will not only include the restoration, but also adaptations. A new entrance and gastro area as well as a basement for sanitary facilities are planned. The renovation work is expected to begin until 2025, depending on the financial situation, as Sahl noted.
The Burgauptmannschaft has launched a significant cultural project with this initiative, which not only focuses on Ambrosis, but also the works of Arik Brauer. While the plans for the future are specified, the anticipation of this cultural hotspot in Vienna remains great. More information about this project can be found in a current report on wien.orf.at .
