New life for the Ambrosi studio: art and culture return!

The property on the corner of Scherzergasse/Lampigasse in the Augarten has a long history that goes back to the 1970s. Originally created for the sculptor Gustinus Ambrosi, it served not only as a workshop, but also as an exhibition room for his work. The premises have been unused in recent years after Francesca Habsburg had given up their TBA21 foundation there and the Belvedere Ambrosi collection was no longer present.

But waiting will soon come to an end. The castle captain announced that the use of the studio building will be revived, in a transition phase, which should initially start as a pop-up operation. Events and cultural events are scheduled to take place next spring. The decision about which events will take place there is discussed in an advisory board, which is led by the former director of the Jewish Museum Vienna, Danielle Spera.

Planning for an arik brewer lounge

A remarkable project is the planned “Arik-Brauer-Lounge”. Timna Brauer, the daughter of the late universal artist, will take over the lead. This lounge should appreciate her father's work and act as a permanent exhibition house. The location will be in the ambrositract and is designed to present parts of the collection from Brauer's private villa. According to Spera, this facility becomes important because there is currently no place in Vienna that is dedicated to Brewer's work. The additional way to show some sculptures outdoors is also sought.

The official opening of the ARIK-BRAUER-LOUNGE will only take place after a comprehensive renovation of the entire complex, which is estimated at around 5 million euros. The exact time frame for the beginning of the renovation work is still unclear, with an estimate for the beginning in 2025.

Overall, the building should not only be renovated after the renovation, but also redesigned. Among other things, a new gastronomy and entrance area is planned to create an inviting atmosphere. In addition, a basement with sanitary facilities is built. During the pop-up phase, the studio surfaces are designed so that they can be used flexibly.

The castle captain announced that the return to active use of the studio offers an exciting opportunity for the city. This could make an important cultural contribution and strengthen the connection to the art scene in Vienna. The entire process is accompanied by a competent advisory board that ensures that diverse and appealing programs are developed that range from exhibitions to performance.
